Early plays
I started writing with a company called Theatre Unlimited at Worcester Arts Workshop.
The company had formed when an acting class led by Chris Johnston folded. We determined to keep going in the workshop's small underground theatre. After mounting a Joe Orton play in 1992 we realised that we'd save money by devising and writing our own material. There were a few writers in the company and we had the great luxury of almost everything we wrote being put on. There's no better education for a playwright.
In 1992 I co-wrote Split Images with Kevin C. I can't remember what it was about and I've lost the script.
In 1993 I wrote Knights in the Round (an Arthurian story). This then became a piece of street theatre, Knights in the Afternoon, during that year's Three Choirs Fringe Festival.
In 1994 I wrote The Buns of Marro'bone. Very loosely inspired by The Guns of Navarone.
In 1994 I co-wrote Selling Out with Kevin C. I've lost the script.
In 1996 I wrote Dial 'C' for Circus. This later evolved into Circus Play (see separate entry) which was chosen for the Stagecoach! festival and got me my first professional development.
